Introduction to studio art through analytical use of elements and
principles of two-dimensional design and color theory. (Special Fee:

DESIGN II
ART 1203C (3 credit hours)
Prerequisite: ART 1201C
Continuation of ART 1201C through study of visual elements and
principles and their application in three-dimensional form and color
theory. (Special Fee: $25.00)
DRAWING I
ART 1300C (3 credit hours)
Introduction to basic skills, concepts, methods, and tools. Emphasis
on increasing powers of visual observation and drawing from life.
(Special Fee: $25.00)
ART 1301C (3 credit hours)
DRAWING II
Prerequisite: ART 1300C
Continuation of ART 1300C with emphasis on further development
of technique and articulation of space, volume, mass, tonal value,
and composition.
(Special Fee: $35.00)
ART 2330C (3 credit hours)
LIFE DRAWING
Prerequisite: ART 1300C or department approval
Working from live models, students learn to draw the human form.
Includes instruction in skeletal structure, musculature, movement,
and placement in space. (Special Fee: $35.00)
PRINTMAKING I
ART 2400C (3 credit hours)
Basic mastery of graphic techniques of intaglio and/or relief
printmaking. Consists of studio work, demonstrations of each
technique to be mastered and selected studies of history of
printmaking. (Special Fee: $25.00)
PRINTMAKING II
ART 2401C (3 credit hours)
Prerequisite: ART 2400C or department approval
Consists of experimental approach to individual expression with
emphasis on imagery, content and refinement of techniques of
printmaking. (Special Fee: $25.00)
PAINTING I
ART 2500C (3 credit hours)
Prerequisites: ART 1201C and ART 1300C or department
approval
Introduction to basic concepts and techniques of painting.
Emphasis on color mixing, exploration of form and illusionistic
space through observation. (Special Fee: $25.00)
PAINTING II
ART 2501C (3 credit hours)
Prerequisite: ART 2500C
Painting basics are reviewed through continued exploration into
technique, color and composition. Prepares student for more
advanced painting through a series of more elaborate and long-term
projects. (Special Fee: $25.00)
SCULPTURE I
ART 2701C (3 credit hours)
Experiences with variety of three-dimensional media such as wood,
metal (cast and fabricated), clay and plastics, designed to introduce
student to handling of materials and tools necessary to understand
arrangement and relationship of three-dimensional forms. (Special
Fee: $30.00)
CERAMICS I
ART 2750C
Introductory course in pottery design: hand-building techniques,
glazing and firing. (Special Fee: $35.00)
CERAMICS II
ART 2751C
Prerequisite: ART 2750C
Continuation of ART 2750C with emphasis on wheel throwing,
advanced glaze formulation, kiln loading and firing. (Special Fee:
$35.00)
SELECTED TOPICS IN ART
ART 2802C (1 - 6 variable credit hours)
Seminars for students interested in further study in specific art area.
Multiple credit course. May be repeated for credit, but grade

Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of required
collegepreparatory courses; 12 Valencia college-level credits
including one of the following Studio Art Classes (ART 1201C,
ART 1300C, ART 2400C, ART 2500C, ART 2701C, ART 2750C);
and Internship Office approval.
This course is a planned work-based experience that provides
students with supervised career exploration activities and/or
practical experiences related to their career objectives. Each earned
credit hour of Internship requires a minimum of 80 clock hours of
work. Multiple credit course. May be repeated for credit, but grade
forgiveness cannot be applied. (Internship Fee: $65.00)
